Day17 - from Balestrand to Bergen

No alarm clock today - after the ox safari, we deserve some extra sleep. Moreover, Isa has fallen in love with our cottage that shows a fjord-view from every window...  Miji has a hard time motivating Isa to leave.

The weather is still amazing... (Who said that Norway is rainy?)

... And while some are enjoying collecting wild raspberries around the house...

... others are less happy and have to deal with what they'll call "true facts about the berries".

It's already 10:05, let's go have breakfast! Breakfast is until 11:00, right Isa? Well... not quite right, but the hotel manager is so nice that we can still have a quick one.
We then pack our things, do some blogging... man it's 12:00, let's have a beer... we need to modify our initial roadbook anyways. Yesterday, because of the oxes, we couldn't do things as originally planned, so we have to choose what to drop today...we are really taking it cool, so cool that Miji plans a 260km detour from Balestrand... to Balestrand. The road promises to be picturesque, but Isa cannot stop thinking about just waiting for Miji in Balestrand (at some beach, of course...). Miji, inspired, promises beaches along the detour and finally, we both take the motorcycle.

The detour is full of one-lane bending roads giving spectacular views on the fjord...

... and also up small hills to escape the heat...

... and giving us the opportunity to meet some of the locals.

We go across old, still functional tunnels without any light – also helping us to cool down a bit.

It is so hot that some stops are just obligatory, like these waterfalls.

The road continues, narrow and twisty, but mountains are so steep that we have not yet found a place where Isa could jump into the water... Mutiny is in the air...

We reach Balestrand again, the detour is over, and there is accessible water!!!! Ufff, Isa finds her smile again, Miji can breathe...

We make a short picnic and jump into the water. We are not alone, there is a lot of animation, and the kids even do a count-down for Miji to jump into the water. Ahhhhhh! So refreshing!

It's relaxing day so we take our time and cool down... probably a bit too much because it's 19:00 and we are still in Balestrand... mmm... it's time to attack the road to Bergen.

We manage to reach Bergen while the sun is still setting...

... and people are still slandering in the streets of its famous harbor. We take the meaning of relaxing to the extreme and sit down for a beer and suck in the holiday-feeling. We are looking forward for the next day to discover more of this city in which we will spend 2 nights.
