While waffle-eating we discuss between two options: ferry-hopping along the coast versus the hillside road. The sky looks black above the hills... and what Isabel loves the most about this motorcycle trip is to put the motorcycle on the boat and forget about it! So it's decided: Miji gets one more waffle but then he must drive towards the coastal route.
We are lucky: the waffle-cooking smokes have certainly calmed the viking gods: it has stopped raining!
We start our trip: Miji is in his element: the road turns and turns, no cars, no radars... we reach the coast and again realize that the gods are with us: the ferry is already there and about to load the vehicles, no waiting time.
Thanks to the previous day we are now experts in ferry-hopping. We now know that all the cars getting off the ferry ahead of us have to be taken over to quickly get to the next ferry: a new game is born: the countdown of caravans and cars to pass. We need to be careful though: sheeps love to sleep on the road }:-[ ; that's dangerous, for the sheep, specially when Miji is hungry.
We are also lucky on the second ferry: after leaving all the campers behind us, we are the last ones to catch it.
A few ferries later, the sedative effect of waffles is gone and Miji is fed up. Passing caravans is cute, but he needs ups and downs. So we leave the coast and go in search of the hilly roads. We are not disappointed, it slightly rains in-between the hills, but the landscape switching between clouds-covered hilltops, sea and islands is once again breath-taking.
After passing the hills we reach a valley. In our entire maze we realize that there is now only one road that can bring us to our destination: a national, boring, fast road full of caravans... and that there is still 200km to go! We stop for a coffee but that's not enough. As we follow the valley, we entertain ourselves with some homemade singing across all styles: all goes, as long as we know either the chorus's words or melody or in the best case, both. Even "the itsy bitsy spider" makes its way into the hitparade. This national road is definitely the most boring road we've had so far (in Norway). We are so bored that it feels like being in Hell!
Uff, finally... we reach picturesque Trondheim.
We quickly check into the hotel, get rid of our private, sticky portable saunas and head into Trondheim's nightlife.
We find a great small restaurant called Skydsstation and taste a very delicious meal... mmm... delicious... we are in heaven now.
We visit the cemetery in search of Olaf the Viking. We don't find him, but are still very impressed realizing that those buried people were born in the 1700s- 1800s. We visit the cathedral and go on with our research for Olaf ... although quite soon the sunset starts reminding us of bedtime... what an unusual feeling!
There he is: in the middle of the town. Satisfied we can now turn back to the hotel... it is 1 a.m.
