After two
hours of sleep, we get up at 3h30. We have to
catch the first ferry leaving the Lofoten at 6 a.m. (check-in 5:15) and before
that, we still want to visit A, the last village from Lofoten being accessible by
motor-engines. It's raining, we get started very tired and not very enthusiastic.
Just before reaching A, there are constructions blocking the only tunnel leading to it. We are told to wait, so we do...
Isabel is getting nervous, her Swiss clock is ticking, the Bolivian clock is ticking only every third Swiss second... Nothing is moving on the construction site; still we have to wait in front of a blond smiley road worker sipping on his coffee. Finally we can go through. Despite the rain, this last part of the Lofoten islands is beautiful: peaks marking the skies, coming out of the sea; green fields, mirror-lakes and swamps, never-ending beauty. It is worth every hour without sleep.

We arrive
at our ferry at 5h15 just in time for checking-in. We profit from our 3h boat
trip to get some sleep.
We start
the famous coastal road – called Kystriksveien from Bodo to Steinkjer with a
total of 7 ferries. Our plan is to take 3 ferries then do the rest on the road
to the next hotel in Mosjoen and continue tomorrow with 3 more ferries.
We ride along islands and pass mountain peaks covered by heavy cumulus clouds, but no rain. We pass two ice-tongues from Svartisen, Europe’s lowest-lying glacier. One impressive tongue almost dips into the sea. We stop in between many caravans to find a good spot, take some nice pictures and then go on, just enjoying the scenery and the relaxing quick stops on the ferries.

Road traffic is clustered in ferry-schedule. So once we have overtaken all the caravans, which were with us on the ferry, the road and scenery is ours. Meantime to overtake them all, about 17 caravans, was by 16 minutes. Bravo Miji!
On the second ferry we cross the polar circle and leave the fun side of earth. What a sad moment... Nights will come back to schedule our days.... poor Miji...
We take our last ferry and are very lucky to spot some puffins. Birds, we could have observed on an extra safari we would have liked to do, but for which we didn't have time left. Funny parrot-like birds, that can't fly anymore once they have eaten too much.
We also see a seagull getting into a fight with an eagle.
After the
last ferry, we are in no hurry to pass the caravans anymore, so we take it
slow. We head a bit more inside the country towards Mosjoen, today’s endpoint.
The road to Mosjoen is very curvy and narrow... what a pleasure ride for Miji!
Coming into Mosjoen we are first struck by very ugly refinery industry, contrary to the town: It has an old center longing the fjord, with cute old wooden houses.
We look for a restaurant and unfortunately most of them are closed. We are informed that they are not sustainable. We finally find one that doesn’t serve just burgers. The food is very good and we enjoy free internet to get some long-behind writing done.
Walking back home from the restaurant, 0:30 a.m., we hear this woman yell for Heidi... until Heidi opens the window. Then both women start chattering and laughing loudly. We are sure, Heidi invited her in for a coffee.... at 0:30 a.m.
